About Ron and Becky
Hi everyone and welcome to My Secure Home. My name is Ron Rose. I am a retired Dallas Police Officer. Being retired has given me time to reflect on ways to make people more secure in their homes. Home security has been a passion of mine for many years.
When I would answer calls and see how break-ins and thefts affected people, I wanted to help people find ways to make their homes more secure. Over the years I gained the knowledge on how people can do small things to help them keep from being victims.
I wanted to share my knowledge and experience and help people become less vulnerable to burglaries and thefts at home.
A Little Story About Us
I was born in Dallas, Texas. I was the son of a Dallas Police Officer. My dad became a detective and was one of the lead detectives charged with the investigation of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. His police stories and life inspired me to become a police officer.
I became a Dallas Police Officer in 1977. I was blessed to spend the first few years being on the department with my Dad. My Dad retired in 1981. I made sergeant in 1983. I spent 36 years as an officer, 30 as a sergeant. I spent all but a year and a half of my life in patrol by choice. I loved patrol and all it entailed. I saw how crime impacted people on a first hand basis and determined to help people learn ways to become less vulnerable.
Becky is my wife, best friend and the love of my life. We have been married for 26 years. When we married we had a blended family and we were able to make it work. Becky and I are active in our church. She volunteers in the nursery and I am an usher and have developed a ministry in Church Security. We both love the Lord and are so thankful for the blessings we have received. We have four grown children and six grandchildren.
The Day Shaggy Died
Shaggy was a 6 year old terrier mix we rescued from a shelter. We had owned Shaggy for four years and he was part of the family. On Halloween night 2016 we locked up and turned our lights out around 9:00 PM. Some time after 11:00PM our doorbell rang. Shaggy became very aggressive and began barking and growling. I took Shaggy to the door holding him by the collar.
When I opened the door four young men from 16 to 18 years old were there and said, “Trick or Treat.” Shaggy had to be restrained as he didn’t like these young men. I told them it was too late and they needed to leave. They left and I called 911.
Two days later we were not home. We left Shaggy out in our back yard. We were gone for several hours and when we returned home Shaggy was dead in our back yard. He had been poisoned. We had no security set up at my house and I realized I had allowed myself to become a victim.
I purchased wireless security cameras through Amazon and installed them around our home. This may not have prevented the poisoning, but at least would have helped me identify the suspects.
In November of 2016 Cookie joined our family. Cookie is a now year and half old Mini Australian Shepherd. Cookie has stolen our hearts much like Shaggy did.
Why My Secure Home?
The purpose of My Secure Home is to provide people with information on ways to make their homes more safe. I want to help people make their homes less vulnerable.
I hope to provide tips and information that will help people keep from being victimized. Crime has changed. Old fashioned alarm systems are just not as effective as they used to be. I want to provide people with alternative ways to secure their homes.
